Murder of Teenager in York Way, N7 - Metropolitan Police Service

Murder of Teenager in York Way, N7
Following the murder of 16-year-old Ben Kinsella in York Way, N7, in the early hours of Sunday 29th June 2008, Islington Police are working with officers from the Homicide and Serious Crime Command to trace those responsible. It is believed Ben may have been involved in an argument with a group of black males in York Way junction with North Road. He was then stabbed and the suspects ran off.We are keeping an open mind regarding the motive, however, at this stage there is no evidence to suggest this is racially motivated or gang related.Youth violence is currently our number one priority. But, this problem is not specific to Islington, it is a national problem which cannot be solved without the help of partners, communities and the young people themselves. With partners, we are using every tool available to us to tackle this issue:· We are using intelligence to increase the number of officers in areas which are hotspots for youth crime.· We are utilising officers from elsewhere in the Met to put more officers on the streets. For a two-week period from 23rd June 2008, approx. 60 extra officers from the Territorial Support Group, Commissioner's Reserve and other Units are working in Islington.· We have increased the use of stop and search which includes using knife detectors in transport hubs and equipping officers with knife wands (portable metal detectors).· Whenever evidence suggests someone is carrying a knife or offensive weapon the presumption is they will be charged - regardless of age.· For two weeks from 6.6.2008, Safer Schools Officers with 'Theatre AdAd', will visit all senior schools to deliver a two-hour theatre production and workshop around the dangers of carrying knives. Safer Schools and Education Welfare Officers will follow this up with structured lessons.· Safer Neighbourhood Teams will be conducting weapon sweeps wherever necessary in the Borough.Anyone with information about Ben's murder should call the Incident Room on 020 8345 3985 or Crimestoppers anonymously on 0800 555 111.

Gangs of new Britain

Gangs of new Britain By Olga Craig, Sunday Telegraph Last Updated: 1:07am GMT 11/02/2007 No one knows for certain which newspapers Terry Adams took. Indeed none of us knows for sure that he took any at all. What we do know, however, is that what Mr Adams did take was a very great deal of pride and satisfaction in the fact that, until last week, his name and photograph were rarely, if ever, to be found in their pages. Not that he isn't a vain man, one for whom reputation, respect and standing matter little. Quite the contrary. Adams is very proud of his notoriety among his local, north London community: what he has spent a lifetime avoiding is public recognition. No longer. This morning, Adams, the godfather behind a £200 million business built on murder, drugs and money-laundering, whose catch-phrase is "give him a slap", will wake up in Belmarsh, south London's high security prison, after admitting a five-year conspiracy to hide £1 million. While he was handed a 14-y...
