Hundreds march for stabbed teen Ben

TEARFUL EastEnders star Brooke Kinsella led 500 teenagers on a march against knife crime yesterday — in tribute to her murdered brother.

The actress — choking back sobs at the spot where a gang stabbed schoolboy Ben to death — implored friends of the killers to shop them.

She begged: “Please, please if you have anything to say don’t be scared. Be brave and come forward. You will be given protection.

“Help save another life — and help get Ben some justice.”

The poignant 45-minute march, which set out from Islington Town Hall in North London, was organised by a girl pal of popular Ben, 16 — who was killed on Sunday after a rave party at a pub.

Brooke Dunford printed leaflets, sent emails and texts and used the internet site Facebook to get fellow teenagers to turn up. She sported a T-shirt with the slogan “18?” — a reference to the 17 youngsters already knifed to death in the capital this year.

Brooke, 16, said: “I just couldn’t sit around and grieve when this might happen to other people.”

Her actress namesake, 24, who played Kelly Taylor in EastEnders, was accompanied by sisters Jade, 22, and Georgia, 14. She told protesters in an emotional speech after they arrived at the murder scene: “This march is to try to stop this happening to anyone else.”

Just hours earlier she and parents George, 48, and Debbie, 46, visited Ben in a morgue. Wearing a T-shirt with a photograph of Ben as a baby, she told the crowd: “I haven’t got the strength or the energy to say everything I want to say for my brother. I know some people may think this is a big deal because of Ben’s connection but this is just another child and another life lost.”

During the march, people came out of homes and shops to show support. The protesters carried a banner asking: “Why Ben”.

As they approached the spot where he was stabbed, marchers chanted: “Who are we here for? Ben! Why? Stop knives.”

Among the hundreds of relatives and friends who joined the rally was Birds Of A Feather star Linda Robson — a close pal of the family.

She was with her devastated son Louis, 16, who cradled tragic Ben as he lay dying. Linda, 50, said: “There was some trouble between some people in the pub. There was a fight outside. I can promise you with my hands on my heart it wasn’t our children — they weren’t involved in any way. They were chased up the street in a group and somebody shouted, ‘Ben’s been stabbed’. Louis ran back and found him on the floor and stayed with him. He’s obviously distraught. We think we’ll have to take him to counselling.”

Ben, who once appeared in TV’s The Bill, had just finished GCSEs when he was killed by at least two blades. Last night cops were quizzing four people over the murder.

‘ Please, please, if you know anything be brave and get justice for our Ben ’

Two others have been freed on police bail. Police described the latest arrests as “significant”. The prime suspects have links to a vicious street gang called “N7 Bang Bang”. The name refers to the postcode of the 50-strong mob’s turf — and their guns. Their base is the notorious Market Estate.

Gangs of new Britain

Gangs of new Britain By Olga Craig, Sunday Telegraph Last Updated: 1:07am GMT 11/02/2007 No one knows for certain which newspapers Terry Adams took. Indeed none of us knows for sure that he took any at all. What we do know, however, is that what Mr Adams did take was a very great deal of pride and satisfaction in the fact that, until last week, his name and photograph were rarely, if ever, to be found in their pages. Not that he isn't a vain man, one for whom reputation, respect and standing matter little. Quite the contrary. Adams is very proud of his notoriety among his local, north London community: what he has spent a lifetime avoiding is public recognition. No longer. This morning, Adams, the godfather behind a £200 million business built on murder, drugs and money-laundering, whose catch-phrase is "give him a slap", will wake up in Belmarsh, south London's high security prison, after admitting a five-year conspiracy to hide £1 million. While he was handed a 14-y...
