Liberal Democrats have picked David Kelly as their candidate in the Holloway by-election on Thursday 3rd May 2012.

David stood for the Lib Dems in Holloway ward in May 2010. The Liberal Democrats scored double the Tory vote and the Greens were pushed into fourth place. He was the highest polling of the three LibDem candidates in 2010.

David has a proven track record as a local campaigner and is a former secretary of the Market Estate Tenants’ & Residents’ Association, working alongside other residents in the area to secure the total regeneration of their estate and was also a tenant member of the Housing Association board.

David works in the charity sector currently for a large disability charity based in Kings Cross and previously for charities working with homeless people. He is a keen environmental campaigner, helped set up the Friends of Cally Park and was a member of the Islington Environmental Forum. He is a keen cyclist, a member of the London Cycling Campaign, and recently appointed a London Ambassador for the Olympic Games.

Islington Liberal Democrat leader, councillor Terry Stacy, said:
“David would make an excellent local champion. Having helped so many local residents in the past, living in the heart of Holloway ward, nobody knows the issues and the people better than David.”
“This by-election is a straight fight between Labour and the LibDems. David secured more than double the votes of his nearest Tory challenger in May 2010."
“With Labour running the council with such a large majority, local residents need a councillor who is committed to them and the local area."

Indeed none of us knows for sure that he took any at all. What we do know, however, is that what Mr Adams did take was a very great deal of pride and satisfaction in the fact that, until last week, his name and photograph were rarely, if ever, to be found in their pages. Not that he isn't a vain man, one for whom reputation, respect and standing matter little. Quite the contrary. Adams is very proud of his notoriety among his local, north London community: what he has spent a lifetime avoiding is public recognition. No longer. This morning, Adams, the godfather behind a £200 million business built on murder, drugs and money-laundering, whose catch-phrase is "give him a slap", will wake up in Belmarsh, south London's high security prison, after admitting a five-year conspiracy to hide £1 million. While he was handed a 14-y...
