2010 March 6th Market Estate Project 1 -25

On behalf of all the residents of Market Estate, a big thank you to
everyone who was involved in the Market Estate Project, culminating in
the huge event on Saturday the 6th March 2010.
The final stage of the decant and the start of the demolition of the
last of the old estate was always going to be an Islington event but
the whole day exceeded our expectations in every way.
It wouldn’t have been possible without the support of Southern Housing
Group and Higgins generous sponsorship with contributions from the
Arts Council and the Big Lottery Fund.
So many people have been involved and inspired to join in as the
project has developed. Drawing Rooms was created by builders and Jeff
Joseph from Higgins Construction who are the contractors developing
the new estate with the architects drawings from HTA.
The artists have been amazing: some became residents too, they are
part of our community’s history – part of the fabric, the tapestry and
experience of the loss of their home or workspace too. Chris Nyampeta
has been the soundtrack to our life for the past week through the
Market Estate Radio.
To all the 75 artists and 66 site-specific projects, a huge thank you:
Boyd Hill for the stunning transformation of Flat Number One, Jonathan
Trayner for the flag, Clarisse d’Arcimoles for her very moving work
with Jimmy Watts, Mark Calderbank for his tribute to the late great
Jim Veal, Jess Blandford and Joe Morris for the amazing dayglo room,
Augustine Coll for his genius Market Estate Treasure Hunt, Campbell
Drake for the Corridor of Embodied Text, Minako Kurachi for capturing
morning rituals, the stunning laser and music display from Analema
Group in collaboration with LCI and finally Tom Geoghegan for the
performance art of hanging off the top of the Tamworth tower!
Thank you to all the artists, Molly and the volunteers, security, the
caretakers and Stephen Ross at SHG.
Finally no tribute would be adequate for the remarkable creative group
that produced and curated the Project - TallTales: Gadi Sprukt for his
vision , Helmut Feder, Nathan Lyons, Giulia Sala, Ellie Resvanis,
alongside Vicky Lewis with the amazing organization.
Please visit the marketestateproject.com for the official website and
