393 Bus | Leighton Road | Kentish Town | Murad Querishi

Debate over 393 bus route heats upMORE than 1,000 people have signed a petition to keep the 393 bus travelling along Leighton Road in Kentish Town. The signatures were handed over to London Assembly member Murad Querishi this week as the campaign to keep the service in place hots up.The route, which was introduced last summer, has split people living in Leighton Road. Some say the road is not suitable for a bus route as it is too narrow, has cars parked on either side and traffic islands down the middle. It already has a ban on lorries over seven and a half tons and many living there say the bus has caused traffic jams and is dangerous. But others say the route is a lifeline and has cut the numbers of cars on the streets.Janet Taylor, who livesin Torriano Cottages off Leighton Road, heard that there have been calls for the route to be moved south to Agar Grove instead of winding its way from Holloway to Chalk Farm. They say Agar Grove is in desperate need of an east to west bus service and is more suitable for buses to use.But Mrs Taylor said: “I have collected over 1,000 signatures and we hope it will make Transport for London and City Hall take notice.“They were collected in Kentish Town and on the bus. So many people say they can’t do without the bus.“I hardly use the car at all now – I walk to Holloway and get the bus home with my shopping. It has cut school run traffic – children here are in the catchment area for Haverstock and they take the bus instead of getting lifts.”
