if you know any artists, designers etc and wanted to forward it to them, it's a last minute opportunity to be involved ... "Join us as we take over a soon to be demolished 1960s housing estate and begin to transform more than 100 empty flats, public spaces and facades into a creative playground for artists, designers and residents. The Market Estate Project culminates in February 2010, in a one day event, inviting the public to explore the site and the works - just before the bulldozers move in. The call for submissions is now open." http://www.marketestateproject.com Market Estate Project - Islington - deadline 10.12.09.

Prime Minister invites resident to Downing Street 4 December 2009 Southern Housing Group resident, Wale Yusuff, who lives at Parkside Place (formerly Market Estate) in Islington, was invited to Downing Street to mark Social Enterprise Day on 19 November 2009. Social Enterprise Day aims to inspire the next generation of social entrepreneurs, celebrating and recognising the work of current social entrepreneurs in the UK. With the support of Southern Housing Group, Wale set up his own business, Drivers Edge UK, earlier this year. Wale was awarded funding by the Group’s social and economic regeneration arm, the Foundation, to undertake a course with the School for Social Entrepreneurs. SHG TEAMS UP WITH ARTISTS TO PROVIDE URBAN ARTS PROJECT FOR YOUNG RESIDENTS

SHG TEAMS UP WITH ARTISTS TO PROVIDE URBAN ARTS PROJECT FOR YOUNG RESIDENTS Southern Housing Group's young residents at Market Estate in Islington were given the chance to take part in a unique graffiti-art project. Following meetings with young people living on the estate, the Group worked in partnership with design practice, Tall Tales , to organise a graffiti-art class on the estate. The activity was held in a contained area near the estate's Clocktower Place and was aimed at 13-18 year olds living at Market Estate. All art materials were provided, including spray paints, sketch books and safety masks. Reinvestment Director, Stephen Ross , said: "This was a fantastic chance for young residents to get involved in art, have fun and meet new people. The workshop was supported by the Group's community regeneration arm, the Foundation, which works to deliver projects to benefit residents. Some of the artwork might be displayed as part of a bigger art exhibition planned
